Red Ribbon Week
Say NO to Drugs
Monday, Oct. 20th to Friday, Oct. 24th
Jefferson Red Ribbon Week Activities Do you know why we celebrate Red Ribbon Week? In 1985, a drug enforcement agent who was the father of 3 children was investigating a large drug scam. He was killed during the investigation. In remembrance of Enrique "KiKi" Camerena , who devoted his life to fighting illegal drugs , Red Ribbon Week was started. Listed below are the themes for the week and special activities.
Friday, October 17th: Red Ribbon Rally at Statehouse 12-1:00 pm. (6th grade) Wear red 6th graders!
Monday, October 20th:Team up against drugs. Winners don't do drugs! Wear your favorite team shirt.  Assembly - 2:00 -2:30 (k-3) 230-3:00 (4-6th) . K9 (drug police dog) demonstration and making positive choices information from Officer Randy from BPD.
Tuesday, October 21st: Too smart to start! Wear a college/university apparel. Wednesday, October 22nd: Walk this way to healthy choices. Wear tennis/running shoes and walk an extra lap for the Mayor's walking challenge!
Thursday, October 23rd: Sock it to drugs. Wear wild socks.
Friday, October 24th: Falcons soar above drugs and alcohol and make healthy choices. Wear a Jefferson shirt or red item of clothing (or both!)
Last week and continuing this week, all classes will be participating in a lesson from Tuckie Shaver BPD crime prevention unit focusing on safety, good choices and responsible behavior. I will continue this focus in several classrooms during red ribbon week. Teachers should discuss/reinforce positive activities students can be involved with instead of drugs. I can help with activity ideas focusing on prevention/healthy choices. Decorating your doors with drug free messages is of course encouraged ! I know how creative you all can be. Thank you for your help in promotion of a healthy lifestyle!
